Cases of aspiration pneumonia frequently end in death yet it can be easily prevented.
Urinary tract infections can also be a major problem among the elderly and handicapped individuals, this mainly effects those individuals who unable to move themselves or verbalize their discomfort. The individual can spend prolonged amounts of time in urine or feces soaked clothing before a staff member may notice, this can result in bacteria reaching its way into the individual’s urethra and causing an infection. As with other infections this can also in time enter the bloodstream and cause major medical problems.
Other issues that can arise from nursing home abuse are harder to notice, such as small fractures in the bones due to a fall; these can go unnoticed and untreated which may lead to further medical problems.
